Q: I can’t afford the ticket price, do you provide discounts?
A: We understand that ticket prices may seem high. Unlike a typical Escape Room or similar experience, we’re proud to employ multiple professional actors with top-notch improv skills to lead you on your adventure. Ticket prices reflect the cost of providing our actors a fair wage, as well as our team of scenic designers, prop makers, and graphic designers.

If cost is a barrier, please email hiddenwonderschicago@gmail.com or DM us on Instagram to inquire about Pay-What-You-Can tickets, which we are happy to provide for select performances to folks who wouldn’t otherwise be able to come. Immersive Theater is an emerging art form and we believe it should be experienced by everyone.

Q: Where is The Peculiar Portal located?
A: You can find our humble shop at 1439 W Jarvis Ave, Chicago, IL. Input “Jarvis Square Theater” into your GPS to find us. On public transit, take the Red Line to the Jarvis stop. We are 1 block from there, near the corner of Jarvis and Greenview.

NOTE that our shop is tucked away, back from the street in a lovely courtyard next to a Pottery place.

Q: Is there parking?
Parking on the street is free! Space is sometimes limited, so please carpool if you can or take public transit (Jarvis stop on the Red Line).

Q: What should I do if I am running late?
A: Please shoot an email to hiddenwonderschicago@gmail.com. We can accommodate late entry up until 10 minutes after your appointment time.

Q: Are there any strobe lights or stage effects?
A fog machine and swirling lights are used briefly. No strobe lights.

Q: What time should I arrive?
A: Please arrive at least 5 minutes before your show time. There is no indoor lobby for the show, but there is a gorgeous outdoor patio. The doors will open exactly at show time, but if you need the restroom before then please ring the doorbell!

Q: How long is the performance?
A: Your visit will last up to 90 minutes, depending on group size. We intend to give you a full, unhurried adventure.

Q: Is this an Escape Room?
A: Yes… and not yes. This is an immersive adventure, with some escape room style puzzles. You’ll make your way through the story, interacting with actors, and solving puzzles.

Q: Is it scary?
A: Not really. Ok, a little. But, like, more

Q: Is it for kids?
A: Select performances are designated as “family friendly” for ages 8 and up, but otherwise this is an experience for adults 18+. Occasional exceptions may be made — please email hiddenwonderschicago@gmail.com to inquire.

Q: Is the experience wheelchair accessible?
A: Yes. There are no stairs, and all areas including doorways and bathrooms can fit a wheelchair.

Q: Will I be given a drink at the show? Will I need my ID?
A: In fact, you will! We’re so glad you asked. It is the Shopkeeper’s birthday after all, so chances are high you’ll be given a craft cocktail to celebrate. What kind of party host would he be otherwise??

Q: Why is there a minimum audience size?
A: This experience is designed for a minimum of 3 people. If less than three have booked any given performance, you will be contacted via email for a reschedule or refund.
